Owning your propane cylinder as opposed to using one of those propane cylinder exchanges at the convenience store or gas station can be surprisingly cost-effective.
In fact, you can save money in more than one way!
First, on the cost of propane itself. It can be much lower when you refill your own cylinder as opposed to using an exchange. You can save up to $1.75 a gallon! If you use propane cylinders often, or have more than one cylinder, you can save some big bucks.
Secondly, there’s another money-saving advantage to refilling your tank instead of using an exchange. You only pay for the propane you use! Here’s an example of what we mean:
Your propane cylinder is running low—there is still some in the tank but not enough for your day’s grilling. If you go to a propane cylinder exchange, you’ve now paid for propane you never used!
However, when you refill your propane tank, every bit of propane in there is yours. When you bring it for refill, you keep that propane and only need to buy propane to fill the rest of your cylinder. Over the course of a summer, this could prevent you from giving away enough propane to fill an entire cylinder on its own!
